The World Cup in Brazil is coming into view and everyone is hoping this summer's carnival can take its place among some of the great tournaments of the past.

That won't be easy though, as this series will testify. In the run-up to the tournament, we're counting down the 100 greatest World Cup moments.

Check out our latest instalment below, and for any you missed, see the gallery at the end of the article.

USA beat England in 1950 - The Miracle Match

When England faced the USA in their opening group stage match in 1950, the pre-match expectation was solely on three points.

It was the first time the two sides had faced each-other in a major finals, but things didn't go according to plan.

A single goal from Joe Gaetjens in the 38th minute was the difference at the Estadio Independencia as the United States recorded a memorable upset. From a state-side perspective, the victory was momentous enough to be turned into a movie.

The Miracle Match received lukewarm reviews - at least in England anyway.
