World Cup 2014: Evidence emerges that the USA are catching on to 'soccer' as fans go mental during win over Ghana

Even vice-president Joe Biden has been getting into the spirit

With the NFL, NHL and NBA seasons all over, the US has turned its attentions to football, or ‘soccer’ for the duration of the World Cup at least, and evidence has emerged that whilst the rest of the world parties, the Americans have decided to join in.

Soccer is the one major sport that has yet to completely catch on in the US but evidence has begun to emerge online that there really is a significant following in America, as celebrations swept the nation after the US beat Ghana 2-1 in Natal on Monday.

Whether the attention is based on compulsory patriotism to any US team involved in a major tournament, or simply because there’s nothing else on, remains to be seen. Nevertheless it’s easy to feel jealous of fans celebrating the success of their national team so passionately in what is their fifth most popular sport.
