Poland follow road map to avoid Fifa punishment
FIFA has dropped its threat of sanctions against Poland after reaching an agreement with the country's government, the organisation's president, Sepp Blatter, said yesterday.
Fifa had warned the Polish government last week that it was facing the possible suspension of its national football team after it decided to remove the Polish football association's leadership and install an administrator. The European governing body Uefa had also said that Poland would probably lose its right to co-host the 2012 European Championship with Ukraine unless an agreement was reached before Fifa's deadline yesterday.
But, according to Fifa, the Polish government has agreed to end its administration of the football association and adhere to a road map charted following a similar dispute last year. Blatter said: "We have received letters and documents that there has been an agreement between the FA and the Polish government. If this agreement comes into force tomorrow, it is sufficient for us."
