After his recent woeful run of form, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is now left with a very real dilemma - should he continue to play Angel Di Maria or drop the most expensive player ever signed by a British club.

The Argentinian, who joined for £59.7m from Real Madrid last summer, was substituted off in his third successive appearance last night after having another night to forget, this time against Newcastle United.

Di Maria was replaced by Adnan Januzaj after 59 minutes, having failed to have an attempt at goal, and completed only 63% of his passes.

In his previous game for United before that, he was hauled off at half-time against Sunderland.

He has now gone 11 appearances for the club without scoring, since netting in the final minute against Yeovil in the FA Cup tie back in January.

In total, Di Maria has scored four goals for the club this season, at a cost of £14.9m a goal.

He has made eight assists, nearly half the amount made by Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas, who at £30m cost half the fee of Di Maria.

His shot accuracy stands at just 43%, and his passing accuracy is 78%.

But it all started so well for the 27-year-old, in his first five matches for United he made four assists and scored three goals, how Van Gaal must hope he can rediscover that form.
