Angel Di Maria is understood to be on the verge of a move to Manchester United. Here, we take a closer look at his career...

1988: Born February 14 in Rosario, Argentina.

2005: Made his senior debut for his home town club Rosario Central aged just 17, having risen through the youth ranks. He went on to score six goals in 35 matches for the Argentinians.

2007: July - Was a member of the Argentina squad which won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada. Moved to Benfica soon after, where he would make 76 appearances and score seven times, winning one Portuguese league title.

2008: August 23 - Scored the winning goal as Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0 to claim the Olympic gold medal in Beijing.

September 6 - Made his senior international debut against Paraguay.

2010: February - Netted his first hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Leixoes in the Portuguese Liga. Benfica went on to win the title that season.

June - Helped Argentina reach the World Cup quarter-finals in South Africa.

July - Joined Real Madrid on a five-year deal for a reported fee of 25million euros.

August - Made his debut for Real in a friendly against Mexican side America and scored his first goal in another pre-season friendly against Hercules soon after. His Primera Division debut following on August 29 in a goalless draw with Real Mallorca.

August 11 - Scored his first international goal as Argentina beat the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.

2011: April 20 - Set up Cristiano Ronaldo's goal and was then sent off in extra-time as Real beat Barcelona 1-0 to win the the Copa del Rey final.

2012: Was an instrumental part of the team as Real lifted the 2012 Spanish league title.

August - Signed a new improved contract with Real, tying him to the club until 2018. Won the Spanish Super Cup with Real, edging out Barcelona over two legs.

2014: April 16 - Won the Copa del Rey for a second time, with Real again beating Barcelona in the final.

May 24 - Named man of the match as Real lifted the Champions League trophy for the 10th time in their history with a 4-1 victory over city rivals Atletico in the final.

June/July - Saw his World Cup campaign in Brazil ended by injury at the quarter-final stage. Argentina went on to reach the final, where they lost to Germany.

August 12 - Was an unused substitute as Real beat compatriots Sevilla to win the UEFA Super Cup.

August 24: Real coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed Di Maria had said his goodbyes to his team-mates at training amid reports of an imminent move to Manchester United.
