ITV Sport were almost left red-faced when the channel suffered a momentary blackout during Liverpool's Europa League tie with Besiktas.

With the coverage being broadcast on ITV4, service was lost at the end of extra time as Brendan Rodgers' men prepared for penalties with the two sides locked at 1-1.

The potentially embarrassing issue was ultimately resolved with seconds to go before former Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba scored the first penalty of the shootout - which Besiktas eventually won.

The match represented just Liverpool's third penalties defeat in fifteen matches, but Reds supporters still remember a similar incident involving a clash with rivals Everton.

ITV have made no comment and, with little coverage actually being disrupted, are unlikely to do so.

It was a bad night for British teams as both Tottenham and Celtic were also knocked out of the competition just days after Arsenal and Manchester City suffered damaging defeats in their Champions League campaigns.
