Dario Gradi denies wrong doing but will assist the FA after interim suspension from football

Crewe director of football Dario Gradi has issued a statement denying any wrongdoing after it was revealed he had been suspended by the Football Association.

The suspension was officially announced on Monday after the FA decided to investigate The Independent’s story that Gradi allegedly “smoothed over” a complaint of sexual assault against Chelsea scout Eddie Heath while he worked at the Stamford Bridge club.

The FA launched a wider investigation into sexual abuse against children in the game in November and Gradi’s suspension came two days before it launched that review, despite only being announced two weeks later.

In a statement, the 75-year-old said: “Having been notified by the Football Association on 25^th November, I acknowledged my current interim suspension from football.

“I would like to reiterate that I will do everything in my power to assist all investigatory authorities.

“As I have previously stated, aside from denying any wrong doing it would be inappropriate and unfair on all parties to comment through the media at this time in connection with any allegations.

“I would also like to thank all those people, who have come out in support of me. It is very much appreciated.”

Gradi’s statement came hours after his club confirmed the suspension, which was reported by The Independent on the weekend.

In a short statement, the club said: "Following discussions with the Football Association, Crewe Alexandra Football Club can confirm that Dario Gradi is currently under an FA interim suspension from football."
