FA Cup round-up: Butler does it as Swansea make Warnock pay

Field a weakened side against in-form lower division opposition at your peril in the FA Cup. Neil Warnock duly paid the price as his Premiership Sheffield United, showing eight changes, went out in the third round at Bramall Lane, losing 3-0 against League One promotion contenders Swansea City, the Welsh side's midfielder Tommy Butler scoring twice.

"We were quite humiliated in the second half," Warnock said."I feel disappointed and let down by players who should have been good enough to give a decent account of themselves."

Swansea led when Adebayo Akinfenwa's 53rd-minute shot was blocked and Butler sidefooted in the rebound from eight yards. Six minutes later a tackle on Akinfenwa again saw the ball fall to Butler and he drove in the Swans' second. Eight minutes later, Derek Geary felled Butler who declined the chance of a hat-trick as Leon Britton fired in the penalty.

"After the first half I just asked the players for some more of the same because we had one or two chances that we failed to capitalise on," Swans manager Kenny Jackett said. "So I'm pleased with the goals in the second half."

Elsewhere, League Two's Peterborough United and Chester City, and Bristol City and Oldham Athletic of League One all earned replays against Championship sides. Oldham, in League One's second automatic promotion place, drew 2-2 with Wolves at Molineux. "The replay is good for us," John Sheridan, the Latics manager, said of the match at Boundary Park, "it's a midweek game and hopefully it will be freezing and raining."

Another League One form side, Bristol City, met Coventry City, mid-table in the Championship, and for the first 45 minutes both sides threw away the defending manual. Colin Cameron put the visitors ahead after 13 minutes, but eight minutes later the Robins were 3-1 ahead, goals by Steve Brooker, Enoch Showunmi and Phil Jevons. Goals by Leon McKenzie and Stern John forced a 3-3 draw and Ricoh Stadium replay.

Beaten in round two by Bury, Chester City were reinstated because the Shakers used an ineligible player, the first time a League club have had a second chance after defeat. The League Two side held out at the Deva Stadium for a replay in a goalless draw with Ipswich Town.

League Two's Peterborough United may have sensed an upset when Plymouth Argyle had Paul Connolly sent off. But Hasney Aljofree put Argyle ahead from a twice-taken penalty, had bottles thrown at him for provocative celebrations - "a disgrace and I would have thrown a bottle at him myself," his manager, Ian Holloway, said, while Posh manager Keith Alexander was sent to the stands for protesting. But substitute Aaron McLean levelled late on for Posh's 1-1 draw.

Championship sides Crystal Palace, Derby County and Southampton all beat teams from lower divisions. Palace won 2-1 against League Two Swindon Town at Selhurst Park and the Rams' Arturo Lupoli scored a hat-trick as Wrexham, in League Two relegation peril, lost 3-1. At Plainmoor, Grzegorz Rasiak scored twice for the Saints as they beat Torquay United, bottom of the entire League, 2-0.

Aldershot, one of two Conference sides left in the competition, went out at Blackpool, the in-form League One side's Andy Morrell scoring twice in their 4-2 win. Two all-Championship meetings ended all square, Queen's Park Rangers drawing 2-2 with visitors Luton Town, and Southend United and Barnsley drawing 1-1.
