Football in Brief: Warnock cools on Beckham; Trapattoni keen to stay with Ireland; Celtic braced for Uefa hearing

The QPR manager, Neil Warnock, claims David Beckham is no longer a transfer target for the club. The 36-year-old midfielder's contract with Los Angeles Galaxy runs out later this month.

Warnock was hoping Beckham's desire to play for Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics might entice him to London. But asked whether he would sign the former England captain in January, Warnock said: "No, I can't see that."

"We're not there yet, we're a team in the making," Warnock said. "We've some very important signings to make in January which we are working on now, to give us that push towards the end of the season."

Trapattoni keen to stay for 2014

The Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, wants to stay on for the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign. The Republic look certain to clinch a place at Euro 2012, leading Estonia 4-0 ahead of tomorrow's play-off second leg in Dublin.

"We can repeat our performance in qualification towards the World Cup in Brazil," the 72-year-old said.

"Now we have a strong, young team. I would be disappointed or upset if I had to leave," the Italian added. "When we change these senior players, I am sure we have options who are very, very strong."

Celtic braced for Uefa hearing

Celtic are preparing their response to Uefa after their fans were accused of singing "offensive" songs during a Europa League home game against Rennes earlier this month.

The club confirmed they were "looking into the claims", which are believed to centre on songs about the IRA.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "We can confirm there were a number of instances during the game of singing offensive songs and inquiries are ongoing to detect the offenders."
