Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze branded Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson's theory about why the Spanish club signed him as "science fiction".
Ferguson accused Real on Tuesday of signing the Argentina defender from United in 2007 in order to try and tempt his close friend, Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo, away from Old Trafford.
"This theory of Ferguson's - that I went to Real so the club could persuade Cristiano (to sign) the following summer - is a work of absolute science fiction," British daily the Guardian quoted Heinze as saying today.
"Cristiano is a clever person and he decides himself what is best for his own life. I am a very good friend of his. This is true but he always decides his own future." Ronaldo was courted by the Spanish champions during the close season after he let slip he would like to play for them in the future but the 23-year-old finally ended the speculation in August by committing himelf to United for this season.
Earlier this week, he said he had made the right decision to stay and that he expected to continue with United beyond this season.Reuse content
