Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio insists yesterday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final defeat will not derail his side's promotion bid from League Two.

"It happens to the best players in cup finals, they lose concentration. But not these players in the league, no," said the Italian after the 2-0 defeat by Chesterfield at Wembley. "We next play at home and that is our fortress, so I don't worry. It is a local derby [against Bristol Rovers] so a lot of people will come and support my players. These players have the energy and personality over a season. It will not affect us."

Chesterfield, who are battling the drop from League One, had to withstand a barrage of first-half Swindon pressure but held firm and went ahead through an own goal from Oliver Risser before Craig Westcarr netted in second-half stoppage time to secure a memorable victory. "I think it will help us in the league," said manager John Sheridan. "It is great for the supporters because it is a trophy but I know where my priorities stand."

Anti-corruption report 'tough'

The anti-corruption expert appointed by Fifa to advise on modernising reforms and repairing its scandal-hit reputation says he will deliver a "tough" report to football's world governing body on Friday.

Mark Pieth told the Associated Press that Fifa President Sepp Blatter's executive committee would be "wise" to accept "almost everything" in the proposals. The University of Basle law professor has led a 13-member panel of football officials and experts in clean government at Fifa's request.

Pieth says of the interim report: "It's going to be pretty tough. There are a few issues that will need heavy negotiation."

Inter win U19 event at Orient

Internazionale beat favourites Ajax on penalties yesterday to win the inaugural NextGen Series – an under-19 version of the Champions League – at Leyton Orient's Matchroom Stadium.

The Italians, who had Ibrahima Mbaye sent off, took the lead in the first half, Daniel Bessa setting up Samuele Longo. Ajax levelled after the interval, Stefano Denswil scoring with a free-kick. Extra time failed to separate the sides, but Inter won the shoot-out 5-3 in front of 2,500 fans.

Ajax beat Liverpool in the semi-finals. Aston Villa lost to Marseilles in the last eight, Manchester City and Celtic failed to leave their group while Spurs' ineligible players forced their exit.
