26 May 1989: Liverpool 0–2 Arsenal
Arguably the most dramatic end to any league season, Arsenal went to Anfield needing to win by a two-goal margin in order to claim the First Division title. Liverpool were the reigning champions and were looking to complete the Double, having won the FA Cup the weekend before, whereas Arsenal were looking for their first title in 18 years. Alan Smith's header in the 52nd minute gave Arsenal the lead but the crucial second goal seemed to have evaded them. That was until the game entered injury time when Michael Thomas burst into the box and lifted the ball over the onrushing Bruce Grobbelaar to snatch the title for the Gunners.
