The simple presence of Petr Cech played a role in Arsenal's Community Shield victory, according to Arsene Wenger.

The summer signing from Chelsea kept a clean sheet in his first match against his former side, a 1-0 victory in the curtain raiser at Wembley.

The £11m Czech stopper only had to make two saves during the match, with Chelsea being guilty of shooting wide on numerous occassions. Among those wide of the target when they should have done better were Eden Hazard and Ramires.

Speaking after the game, which saw Wenger claim his first win over Mourinho in 14 attempts, the Arsenal manager suggested Cech lining up against his former team may have put the Chelsea players at a psyological disadvantage.

“Maybe it had an influence on the Chelsea players as they know that to score against him you have to score a perfect goal,” said Wenger.

The victory at Wembley means Cech has now won three trophies since joining the Gunners just over a month ago, with the goalkeeper helping the Gunners to victory in every pre-season competition they've contested.
