Wayne Rooney scores a controversial penalty to give Man Utd the lead at Old Trafford. Shaun Derry was sent off for the foul on Ashley Young although QPR will feel extremely hard done by as the Man Utd winger was in an offside position. A 25-yard strike from Paul Scholes in the second half sealed the win as Man Utd went eight points clear at the top of the table.

Everton’s other goals were scored by Magaye Gueye, Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman as they thrashed Sunderland, despite David Moyes resting players for Saturday’s upcoming fixture at Wembley.

Elliot Bennett scores a spectacular goal for Norwich as they recorded a well-deserved victory over Tottenham. Anthony Pilkington had given the Canaries the lead after some comically bad defending from the home team but Jermain Defoe pulled one back before Bennett’s fantastic strike sealed a great win for Norwich. The defeat was another blow to the home side’s hopes of securing a top-four finish as their stuttering for continued.
