Radamel Falcao's agent has blasted Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, saying that it would have been a different situation for the on loan Colombian striker if Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford.

Falcao has scored just three Premier League goals for the club since joining from Monaco last summer, and his representative, Jorge Mendes, says that Ferguson would have been able to get more out of the player than Van Gaal has.

Because of his injuries and lack of form, it seems doubtful United will make the 29-year-old's move permanent for the agreed £43m at the end of the season, but Mendes says that the striker will be at "one of the five or six best teams in the world" next term if United don't decide to sign him.

"He didn't make a mistake when he chose Monaco," Mendes said.

"He is a champion. I miss Ferguson at Manchester United. With him and this squad the situation would be different.

"I know that if they give Falcao five complete matches, I am convinced that he would score goals in practically all of those matches.

"If Falcao does not stay in Manchester, he will be at one of the other five or six best teams in the world."

Only last month, Mendes warned Van Gaal Falcao "would without any doubt play 90 minutes of the match, every time, with any other club".
