Referee Danny McDermid has been charged with using abusive language toward Leeds manager Dennis Wise.

McDermid was charged yesterday by England's Football Association over the incident at halftime in Leeds' League One match against Gillingham on 29 September.

Wise claimed McDermid swore at him during the 1-1 draw and Leeds reported McDermid to the FA after the game. McDermid has until 13 November to respond to the charge.

Leeds had Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford sent off in the match, and Wise was also sent from the dugout by McDermid.

Wise was previously charged with using abusive and/or insulting words and was fined £5,000 yesterday and given a three-match ban from the dugout for his part in the incident.

A previous suspended one-match touchline ban for Wise was invoked and a further two added.

Wise's suspension begins 9 November. It will cover the FA Cup first round game against Hereford, the League Cup quarterfinal against Bury and a league game against Swindon.

* David Beckham will play in an anti-poverty charity match on 19 November, his first game in Spain since leaving Real Madrid. The game is sponsored by the UN Development Program and its ambassadors, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo..
