Rangers' United States international midfielder, Claudio Reyna, has turned down a new contract offer because he wants to play in the Premiership.

"We did make an offer hoping he would extend his contract because we want him to stay but he has made it clear he wants to play in the Premiership," the Rangers chairman, David Murray, said. "It may be only a matter of time now but we would still like him to stay until the end of the season. However, if the right offer comes in he may be able to go before that."

Reyna has 18 months of his existing contract to run. Rangers turned down a £3.5m bid from Sunderland earlier this month.

Brian Deane has finally completed his move from Middlesbrough to Leicester. The 33-year-old former Sheffield United, Leeds and Benfica striker has signed an 18-month contract after City paid Boro a nominal fee for his services.

The Football Association will study the match report from the referee Uriah Rennie before considering whether or not to punish Kevin Keegan following his outburst over Rennie's handling of Manchester City's 2-0 Worthington Cup fourth-round defeat at Blackburn on Wednesday. Rennie sent off the City midfielder Christian Negouai midway through the first half and Keegan was unhappy with his handling of the match, claiming "it was shocking refereeing".
