Rooney shortlisted for Europe's best club player award
Wayne Rooney is the only Premier League player on the 12-man shortlist for Uefa's Club Footballer of the Year. Internazionale, who won the Champions League under Jose Mourinho, have five and Barcelona four.
Wesley Sneijder, who played in the World Cup final for Holland, and Argentina striker Diego Milito, lead Inter's representation after scoring the goals in the 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.
The German champions are represented by Arjen Robben, another Dutch World Cup finalist. Lionel Messi, who won the award last year, is also nominated. Rooney is the only candidate from England after no Premier League club advanced beyond the quarter-finals. The winner will be announced next week in Monaco, when the draw for this season's group stage is made.
Goalkeeper of the Year: J Cesar (Inter), H Lloris (Lyon), V Valdes (Barcelona). Defender of the Year: Lucio (Inter), Maicon (Inter), Gerard Pique (Barcelona). Midfielder of the Year: Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona), Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich), Wesley Sneijder (Inter).
