Borgetti scored a fine goal in the 1-1 Uefa Cup draw at Besiktas last week, and was on target again last night with the only goal of the game as Bolton disposed of West Ham United in an all-Premiership meeting in the Carling Cup at the Reebok Stadium. The winner came after an hour when Khalilou Fadiga's cross was bundled in by Borgetti.

A late screamer from the former Chelsea midfielder Jiri Jarosik gave Birmingham City a 2-1 victory over Norwich City in a battle of two out-of-form sides at St Andrews.

Jermaine Pennant put the Premiership side in front early on with a deflected free-kick but the Canaries were level before half-time when Martin Taylor scored an own goal after some shoddy defending.

Mikael Forssell then missed a penalty just before the break for the Blues before Jarosik belted in an effort from 25 yards off the underside of the bar with just six minutes left.

A far-post header from Nils-Eric Johansson gave Leicester City a 1-0 victory at Cardiff City in their all-Championship affair.
