Scotland in offer to host Euro 2012

The Scottish Football Association will offer to step in to host Euro 2012 if Uefa take the tournament away from Poland and Ukraine.

Uefa in the last week has cited recent "political instability" in Poland and Ukraine as a cause for concern and have called for both countries to prove they are ready.

European football's governing body has vowed to support both countries as far as possible but the Uefa president Michel Platini is aware of the potential for "critical slippage" in planning and pinpointed the next six months as crucial.

Uefa chose the Poland-Ukraine bid over submissions from Italy and Croatia-Hungary.

The SFA chief executive, Gordon Smith, confirmed Scotland would be potential hosts if Uefa invited new bids. Scotland are already expected to bid for the Euro 2016 finals.

"In the meantime, we'd speak to the Scottish government and try to get a feasibility study done as to the costs and what's required in terms of stadium upgrades," Smith said.
