Something From The Weekend: 46-year-old golfers, Raymond Domenech, Peter Saville's England kit, Now everyone's a footballer

The Good

46-year-old golfers

Two players unflatteringly referred to as "veterans" claimed famous wins yesterday. While Laura Davies became the Ladies European Tour's oldest winner, aged 46 years and 11 months, Miguel Angel Jimenez, exactly four months her junior, took the European Masters title for the first time. "I was shaking. It's your legs; your legs go. If your hands and your arms go then you're in trouble but you feel your legs getting a bit shaky," said Davies. Steady on, Laura, you might be a "veteran", but you're not that doddery.

The Bad

Raymond Domenech

The former France coach has been fired from the French FA's technical advisory board, a role he had held since 1993 and for which he was reportedly paid €10,000 (£8,350) a month. Still, as a keen astrologer – he once refused to pick Robert Pires because the ex-Arsenal man was a Scorpio – maybe he could get a job reading new France coach Laurent Blanc's stars. It might run like this: "Beware your captain stabbing you in the back, and don't propose to your girlfriend live on TV."

The Odd

Peter Saville's England kit

You might have missed it but England's new kit has a touch of "socio-cultural provocation", at least according to the man who helped design it. Saville, who rose to fame doing Joy Division and New Order record sleeves, has added multicoloured crosses of St George on the shoulders of the latest Umbro shirt. It is an attempt to reverse "the marginalisation of the cross of St George," says Saville – either that or make it look like England's players suffer from dandruff.

Now everyone's a footballer

Danny Cipriani recently turned out for Spurs' reserves and MLS side Colorado Rapids. Then, Usain Bolt came out and said: "I think I could be a professional footballer. I'll try that. Maybe I could get into a good side..." What next? Phil "The Power" Taylor signing for Real Madrid?
