9. Winning the Champions League (May 2005)
Six months later, Liverpool found themselves in the Champions League final with only an experienced AC Milan side standing between themselves and glory. By half-time the match seemed to be all but over. Liverpool were 3-0 down and didn’t look like clawing their way back into the match, but incredibly the match was all square at 60 minutes following an astonishing Liverpool resurgence which was kick-started by Gerrard’s 54th minute header. The game ended 3-3 and Liverpool went on to win 3-2 on penalties to complete perhaps the most memorable, if not the greatest, comeback in football history.
