Stoke City completed a deal for striker Michael Owen this week in what was the highest profile free transfer of the summer.

To pay nothing for a former European Player of the Year and the man fourth on England's all-time list of goalscorers would appear a coup for the Potters.

But his transfer has divided opinion, with some questioning whether the 32-year-old's injury record makes him worth it.

Elswehere this summer, Andrew Johnson, Hugo Rodallega, Junior Hoillett, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Jose Bosingwa, among others, all completed free transfers. But do you really get something for nothing?
