The Football Rich List 2009

QPR shareholder Lakshmi Mittal is the wealthiest man in British football, according to the 2009 FourFourTwo.com Rich List.

On the playing side of things Beckham is predictably far out in front of the others while in management, interestingly Roy Keane is wealthier than former mentor Sir Alex Ferguson.

Is any of that £1.5 billion not debt?

it's truly sad that he last was a great footballer about seven years ago - that qualifier against Greece seemed to take so much out of him when England was him and no other. Ever since, egged on by Mrs B no doubt, has been the prodigious, desperate and distasteful acquisition of pure wealth. Recently he's tried to claw back something of what he was but at his age it really isn't going to work, is it? Brought down by greed, poor chap. There's a lesson in there somewhere.

Most overrated player in history-One trick pony, still dining out on a free kick against Greece.....Waste of space.

But he knows how to market himself and has made his fortune out of him. I think we're all a little jealous :)

Football players are one of the few groups of people more dislikable than bankers or politicians.

In my opinion, Rafael Benitez should be earning nearly twice as much as he is getting right now. He is very professional and is not running after money. He should earn £5 million every season provided Liverpool is qualified for the next Champions League campaign directly. This will be a very interesting incentive both for himself and the club because every season the target will therefore be a 3rd place minimum. And if Liverpool maintain this consistency regularly, I think after 2 or 3 seasons they will be CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND.
