The funniest tweets from transfer deadline day: Assou-Ekotto enjoys 'freedom', Yaya Toure cake and the £15 pot noodle

Transfer deadline day was something of a disappointment.

It was hoped that Manchester United would make a big signing. Instead they signed Andy Kellett.

Chelsea managed to wrap up their deal for Juan Cuadrado by about 6.30pm, meaning Chelsea fans didn't have to bite down their nails as it 'went to the wire'.

West Ham were linked with loads of players - none of them arrived.

And whilst Rickie Lambert did his best to ignite deadline day and raise Jim White's voice by an octave, the Liverpool striker's proposed £5m switch to Aston Villa never materialised.

But thankfully there was still some great entertainment in the final 24 hours of perhaps the most boring transfer window in recent memory. Here, we take you through the best tweets of the day...

Crawley Town livened things up by sparking rumours that Sergio Aguero might be joining...

Macclesfield Town tried to secure the biggest move of the window...

Davide Santon's fiancee took to Twitter to clear up the situation behind her partner's move from Newcastle to Inter Milan (before quickly deleting them). Apparently the Magpies acted "disgustingly"...

Benoit Assou-Ekotto's social media activity was arguably the funniest of the night. He posted the following after he was released by Tottenham...

These two tweets also had us chuckling on deadline day...

Plus this offical tweet from Reading after they signed Yakubu...
