When the former Bulgaria striker wasn't scoring great goals or making violent tackles, he could be found arguing with referees, opponents or his team-mates. When he made the move into management he declared "I don't believe in tactics," and instead relied on his man-management abilities. He forced three players (two of them captains) into premature retirement and, running out of people to argue with, went for an entire country - accusing Romania of fixing a qualifier when in charge of the national team.
