Roberto Mancini is facing a severe shortage of players for Manchester City's Premier League trip to Stoke. Carlos Tevez has been granted leave to return to Argentina for family reasons while Craig Bellamy (knee) and Vincent Kompany (groin) both miss out with injuries.

In addition, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland and Martin Petrov suffered knocks against the same opposition at the weekend and could miss out. Adam Johnson does return after being cup-tied for the fifth-round FA Cup game against the Potters. Stoke, meanwhile, will be without Matthew Etherington. The midfielder is facing a lay-off after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's game. The 28-year-old went for a scan yesterday morning and the club expect to receive the results today. Manager Tony Pulis is hopeful he will be out for weeks rather than months.

Everton v Sporting Lisbon

Tim Cahill believes Everton have the mindset to make an impact in the Europa League. A good run of form, including a victory over Chelsea last week, has raised spirits at Goodison Park ahead of tonight's game against Sporting. Cahill said: "I'm very blessed to play for such a great club. I always say you have to run through brick walls. We have that right mental attitude. Hopefully, we can just grow stronger." The Merseyside club will be without John Heitinga and Marouane Fellaini. Heitinga is ineligible while Fellaini is recovering from an ankle injury. Philippe Senderos is doubtful with a back problem but Steven Pienaar returns to the squad.

West Bromwich Albion's chances of going top when they travel to play-off hopefuls Cardiff tonight have been hit by an injury to Gonzalo Jara. The Chile defender is out for the season after breaking a metatarsal in Saturday's 2-2 FA Cup draw with Reading, and he joins a host of Albion players on the sidelines. Manager Roberto Di Matteo said: "He should recover in time for the World Cup but, unfortunately for both him and Chile, he won't be playing much football in the next two-and-a-half months." Abdoulaye Méïté, Marek Cech, Ishmael Miller and James Morrison are also injured while Youssouf Mulumbu and Jerome Thomas are suspended.
