Barcelona's Ronaldinho was last night named FIFPro's World Player of the Year, with Manchester United's Wayne Rooney winning the young player award.
Chelsea trio John Terry, Frank Lampard and Claude Makelele won places in the World XI line-up, while Cristiano Ronaldo won a special young player award, voted for by supporters.
Lampard believes the 19-year-old Rooney should ignore recent criticism of his aggressive style and continue to play the same way. "He's got an edge to his game and if you lose it you lose a lot of Wayne," said Lampard. "He can change a game in an instant."
World XI: Nelson Dida (Milan); Cafu (Milan), Alessandro Nesta (Milan), John Terry (Chelsea), Paolo Maldini (Milan); Ronaldinho (Barcelona), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Claude Makelele (Chelsea), Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid); Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona), Andrei Shevchenko (Milan).Reuse content
