Transfer Talk: Heinze has face-to-face meeting with Ferguson

* MANCHESTER UNITED Gabriel Heinze held face-to-face discussions with Sir Alex Ferguson for the first time yesterday in a bid to resolve the row over his proposed move from Manchester United to Liverpool. Heinze reported for duty at United's Carrington training complex yesterday morning following a brief break after the Copa America.

* SUNDERLAND Roy Keane has confirmed that the club have made a bid for the Tottenham striker Mido. The Egypt striker had looked set to join Birmingham for £6m until the deal fell through. Keane said: "We have made an offer to Spurs for Mido. He is a player I would like to speak to and to bring to this club."

* aston villa Martin O'Neill will redouble his efforts to sign the West Brom central defender Curtis Davies after admitting Martin Laursen will not be able to stand up to the rigours of a full season. Villa scouts watched the England under-21 player in action for the Baggies against Heerenveen at the weekend. Laursen has made a good recovery from his long-term knee problems but O'Neill knows he is unlikely to be able to play a full season.
