Soccer AM presenter Tubes suffers 'very unexpected major heart attack' and has emergency operation to save his life

Soccer AM presenter Peter Dale, better known as Tubes, has revealed he suffered a “very unexpected major heart attack” earlier last week and has thanked surgeons that may have saved his life.

The 35-year-old television favourite was rushed to St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey and underwent an emergency operation on Sunday, little more than 24 hours after appearing on the most recent live episode of Soccer AM on Sky Sports.

Posting on Instagram to reveal the shocking news, Dale wrote: “On Sunday I suffered a very unexpected major heart attack.

“Can't thank the surgeons and staff at St. Peters hospital Chertsey and the Ambulance crew enough.

“If it wasn't for your quick and efficient work I may not have been writing this message now.

“Thank you. Plenty of work to do and surgery to have but I'm slowly on the road to recovery. Big love, yours in foooooooootball. Tubes x.”

The Chelsea supporter, who has been one of the mainstays of Soccer AM for over a decade, is part of the current cast along with presenter John Fendley, comedian Lloyd Griffiths and ex-footballer Jimmy Bullard.

He initially rose to fame for his regular segment on the shot that involved asking celebrity guests “one question and one question only”, but has taken a more prominent role in recent years and has interviewed a number of current professional footballers.

At the start of the year, Dale posted a picture collation on Instagram that included an image of him being arrested by two police officers, and in the caption he revealed that he has suffered from an addiction to alcohol in the past.

He wrote: “2017 (and half of 2016) have been the best years of my life because I finally admitted I’m highly addicted to alcohol and enough was enough and had to stop.

“Just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone for all your kind words and support, it’s massively appreciated and keeps me strong. Hope everyone has an amazing 2018. Big love legends xxx.”

Dale’s fellow Sky Sports colleague and former footballer Chris Kamara posted a message of support on Twitter that read: “Wishing me pal @TubesSoccerAM real name Peter Dale a speedy recovery from a big heart scare this week. Thankfully on the mend.”

Chelsea also sent their best to Dale, with the club’s official Twitter account saying: “All of us at Chelsea Football Club are sending our best wishes to big Blues fan @TubesSoccerAM. Get well soon Tubes, and we hope to see you back at the Bridge soon!”
