Football's most famous No 10 went for a kickabout at another famous No 10 yesterday, as Pele dropped in to Downing Street for a game in the Prime Minister's garden with a group of youngsters.

The Brazilian met eight young people aged between 16 and 25 who are part of Street League, a Downing Street-backed charity which aims to help youngsters gain qualifications, find jobs and stay away from crime.

While nervous aides looked on helplessly as footballs flew into flowerbeds and narrowly missed windows, the 70-year-old World Cup legend said: "Many kids from the street see the game of football and they turn away from the drugs and from the bad scene, which is very important."
