Super sub Connor Pain was not put off by a couple of extra defenders when he scored to put the Melbourne Victory 2-0 up against the Wellington Phoenix this weekend.

Pain's goal sent Melbourne to the top of the A-League on goal difference with 10 points from their four matches so far.

The Hong Kong-born 20-year-old did his best to ignore a huge flock of seagulls that had settled on the AAMI Park pitch.

As the striker raced through on goal the flock, which numbered almost 100, all rose up and began to swirl overhead.

But Pain was unmoved as he slotted the ball home with just under 25 minutes remaining.
