Independiente fans throw tables and chairs at the club president
Fans of recently relegated Argentinian club Independiente vented their anger at President Javier Cantero on Friday night by launching chairs and other objects during a meet-and-greet.
Cantero was forced to flee the stage as a number of supporters, named the Barra Brava, rushed toward him demonstrating their frustration after being relegated from the Primeria Division.
The side found themselves in the lower tier, for the first time in the club’s history, less than two weeks ago, after once seeing their side win the Copa Libertadores a record seven times.
After taking various questions from the fans, the attack came when Cantero admitted there would be little cash available for transfers next season.
It’s not the first time the president has locked horns with the Barra Brava supporters, though. In a march to support Cantero’s fight against the hooligans, a school belonging to the club was cleared following a bomb scare.
