Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has revealed that he was "living on the streets" just three years ago, playing football in and around his estate trying to make it at Auxerre.

The French striker, who has yet to score a competitive goal for the Gunners, has spoken of the extraordinary story of his life before he moved to north London.

The 21-year-old signed for the Gunners from Auxerre in July 2013.

"Just three years ago I was living on the streets," Sanogo told arsenal.com.

"Today I'm playing for Arsenal. I need time.

"I just wanted to be a footballer when I was at Auxerre, but then I got injured for two years.

"Then Arsenal found me and took a chance."
