The Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen has told the club's manager, David Moyes, that he will not sign a new contract until he sees that the troubled club are making progress in the transfer market.

Moyes has held talks with the Dane while the squad are in America preparing for two friendlies in Houston, Texas. Gravesen, who has a year left on his contract, assured Moyes he would not seek to move on this summer. But he said he would not sign any new deal until the club's future was more secure.

Everton have dropped their interest in the Dutchman Mark van Bommel after the midfielder brushed them aside as "not bigger than [his current club] PSV".

Gravesen looks set to make his first appearance in Everton's pre-season campaign tonight against the Mexican side Pachuca in the opening game of the Copa de Tejas tournament.
