Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Nacho Monreal will be out for Arsenal’s next two games, and maybe even another week after that, with an inflamed back.

The Spanish full-back was forced off in his side’s 3-0 EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, and his manager said it will mean he definitely misses the home league match against the same opposition on Thursday, as well as Sunday’s Premier League trip to Brighton and Hove Albion.

He is also a doubt for the Europa League last-16 first-leg game away to Italian giants AC Milan, but the rest of the squad is otherwise fit following their Wembley exploits.

“He is out for the two games this weekend Thursday and Sunday, certainly out,” Wenger said of Monreal. “He might be out for two more, Milan and maybe even one more. He had an inflamed back, a disc problem. The rest, everybody is fit.”
