Arsene Wenger will start new job by 'beginning of 2019' - but doesn't know where yet

Arsene Wenger has once again decided to keep his cards close to his chest when asked about his future - but suggests his next job won't be in England.

The Frenchman left Arsenal after 22 years at the end of last season and after a period out of the game looks set to return soon.

The 69-year-old has been linked with roles with Paris Saint-Germain and the Japanese national team as well as the now vacant manager's job at Real Madrid.

Wenger has no designs on retirement and says he will be back sooner rather than later.

"Certainly at the beginning of 2019," he told Sky Sports News when asked when he would be making his comeback. "At the moment I'm having a good rest and I watch football a lot."

Speaking at the launch of the 'The Twinning Project', a campaign designed to prevent reoffending by pairing professional football clubs with prisons, he added: "I'm here at Wembley where I played many games and have good memories, and of course you miss that.

"I said many times maybe the best way is not to be in England because I spent so much time at the same club it would seem odd to go somewhere else.

"But at the moment I cannot tell you [about my future] because I don't know. I don't know where I will be. I will be somewhere but I don't know where."

Wenger is pleased with Arsenal's progress this season - the Gunners have impressed after losing their first two Premier League games under Unai Emery and currently lie four points off top spot.

He said: "When Arsenal win I am happy. I felt I worked very hard and I think I left it (the club) in good shape.

"After that, I'm a supporter like anyone else - I want them to win football games."
