Berbatov reiterates support for Ramos as Spurs build for future

Matters are starting to improve for Tottenham Hotspur on the pitch and yesterday there was good news off it with the go-ahead for a new £30m training complex in north London.

Whether Dimitar Berbatov ever uses the facilities, which will be completed in two years' time, remains to be seen. The striker's agent, Emil Dantchev, met Spurs' sporting director, Damien Comolli, last week to reiterate the Bulgarian's wish to leave the club next summer if no trophy is won this season.

Berbatov seems to have been disturbed by Manchester United's interest in him last summer. Had they sold him then, Spurs would have more than doubled their money after signing the striker for £10.9m from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006.

Berbatov does not want to upset Spurs' fans and has been keen, since Juande Ramos's arrival last month, to express his enthusiasm. "My first impression of him is that he's an incredible person," Berbatov said yesterday. "He talks to everybody on the team. He is a man who tries hard and he wants to help the team very much. He's the perfect one for the job. I've never wished to be the centre of attention, it just happened. I just try to do my job."

Spurs' recent investment in their squad is now being mirrored off the field, with Enfield council's planning committee approving plans for the new training complex at Bulls Cross, just off the M25. Spurs will also spend £2.3m on community coaching.
