Cesc Fabregas: 'We cannot relax for a moment,' says Chelsea midfielder with Premier League title race almost back on the horizon

Spanish midfielder hoping to end impressive debut season with title

Cesc Fabregas is hoping to end an impressive maiden season in west London with a first Premier League title - but has admitted that Chelsea have to keep their focus.

The Chelsea midfielder, who leads the Premier League assists with 16, has been excellent since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Barcelona for £30million last summer.

Having already helped his new club to the Capital One Cup a few weeks ago, the Spaniard is hoping to cap his season with the Premier League trophy.

"I'm going through a time in my life where I enjoy everything I do," the midfielder told the club website.

"I'm playing almost every minute of every match [with Chelsea] and that's what makes me happy. To matter in the game is fundamental. Now we have to fight hard to win the Premier League and make this season a great year.

"We still have the chance to win the double [Capital One Cup and Premier League], and for that reason we cannot relax for a moment."

With the likes of Xavi, Xabi Alonso and David Villa now retired, Fabregas is one of the most experienced players in the Spanish squad with Vicente del Bosque increasingly turning to the next generation.

Despite being only 27 he has 94 caps, behind only Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Andres Iniesta in the current 23.

However, Fabregas was an unused substitute for the 1-0 Group C win over Ukraine, Del Bosque preferring Koke and Isco instead of the former Arsenal man.

"You always want to play," he said. "When the coach reveals the line-up, I always think I’ve got my place there. When I'm not starting a match, I always think that I can come on later on, and when that doesn’t happen, well then I want to get as fast as possible to the next training so that I can prove that I can start for the following match."
