As Chelsea were agreeing a transfer fee with PSV Eindhoven for the striker Mateja Kezman yesterday, they were also opening talks with Fulham over the sale of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Kezman, 25, will travel to London next week to finalise personal terms, have a medical and apply for a work permit.

Fulham may be in a strong position to win the race to sign Hasselbaink, who has still to settle his pay-off at Chelsea but is hoping for the bulk of his £3m contract in a golden handshake.

The striker's camp claims he has had an offer of around £50,000 a week from one club, and though Fulham could not match that, they could come up with a £2m-a-year package.

Also on his way out of Stamford Bridge is Eidur Gudjohnsen, a target for the Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce, who sold him to Chelsea in a £5m deal four seasons ago.
