Diego Costa will discover on Monday whether the FA will take retrospective action against him for his part in the incident that led to Arsenal defender Gabriel's sending off.

The Chelsea striker was booked by referee Mike Dean during Saturday's lunchtime kick-off, but it is not clear whether the caution was awarded for an earlier off-the-ball incident with Laurent Koscielny.

Costa was seen to slap Koscielny across the face and then forcefully bump chests with the defender, sending him flying to the ground. If Dean missed these incidents, then the Spain international could face a three match ban.

Shortly after his clash with Koscielny, Costa tangled with Arsenal's other centre-back Gabriel, who was eventually dismissed after appearing to tread on Costa's foot.

The behaviour of Chelsea striker provided the match's main talking point, despite Jose Mourinho's men running out 2-0 winners over their London rivals.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was highly critical of Costa after the game and bemoaned what he perceived as a lack of punishment for the controversial striker.

"He can do what he wants, he stays on and everybody else who responds to him has to be sent off. I think it is unacceptable his behaviour," said Wenger.

"If you look well at the pictures what he does to Koscielny before he pushes him down he hits him in the face and the throat, he always gets away with it."

Arsenal's afternoon was made all the more miserable when they were reduced to nine men in the second half, with Santi Cazorla receving his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

In the aftermath of the defeat, Arsenal supporters have started a petition aimed a preventing Dean from refereeing any of their fixtures.
