Collision with Hugo Lloris sees Ashley Young ruled out 'for some time', reveals Manchester United manager David Moyes

The Tottenham keeper took Young out in United's latest defeat at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed Ashley Young is facing a spell on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in the controversial collision with Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Young landed awkwardly as he leapt over Lloris' flying attempt to win the ball, which Moyes remains convinced should have resulted in a penalty for his team and a red card for the Frenchman.

"Ashley has got an injury that is going to keep him out for a time," said Moyes.

"It is a shoulder injury he received in the challenge by the goalkeeper. I am not sure how long it will be."

Young's absence from Sunday's FA Cup third-round encounter with Swansea further fuels United's annoyance at Lloris getting away with his challenge.

Yet Moyes is not prepared to push for the widening of video technology beyond its current limit of determining whether shots have crossed the line or not.

"I wouldn't go down the route of video technology," said Moyes.

"I trust the referees to make the right decisions.

"They do make the wrong ones at times and I have not changed how I felt on Wednesday. I thought that was the wrong decision."

Moyes offered no further update on the fitness of Robin van Persie, who has missed six games with a thigh injury.

"We will let you know when he is ready," said the Scot.

Moyes was not willing to counter Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert's theory about the lack of value in the FA Cup these days, stating: "Every manager will have their own views - and I am not sure that is how Paul Lambert said it."

Nevertheless, as record 10-times winners, United have their own history in a competition only Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher and Robin van Persie - from his time at Arsenal - have winners' medals from.

Indeed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was part of the Red Devils last triumph in the competition a decade ago, and there has been a sense of frustration in the Old Trafford dressing room at the time that has elapsed since that success over Millwall at the Millennium Stadium.

"I am sure there is," Moyes said.

"If you are at a club like Manchester United you want to be involved in all the trophy-winning opportunities.

"For Manchester United not to win the FA Cup for 10 years is something of a surprise. Winning it is something we will try and do, as we try in all competitions.

"We will do everything we possibly can to try and go through."
