Former Chelsea defender Dan Petrescu is the latest name to be linked to the vacant Crystal Palace manager's role after two previous targets were unveiled elsewhere.

Having held talks with Aitor Karanka, the new Middlesbrough manager, and Rene Meulensteen – who was appointed as Fulham's head coach – the club's co-chairman, Steve Parish, and sporting director, Iain Moody, have switched their attention to the Romanian, who is coaching the Russian side Dynamo Moscow.

Roberto Di Matteo, Petrescu's former team-mate at Stamford Bridge, is also understood to be in the frame, having been sacked by Chelsea last season.

However, with more than a week until their next Premier League fixture, the bottom side are willing to take their time over the appointment.
