Edinson Cavani to Chelsea: Paris Saint-Germain striker on top of Antonio Conte's wish list - reports

The Uruguayan scored a late winner at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie

Chelsea will reportedly target Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani if they succeed in luring Antonio Conte as their new manager.

The Uruguayan scored a late winner at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie last month and is reported by the Daily Mail to be at the top of Conte’s summer wish list.

Guus Hiddink is currently in charge at Stamford Bridge on an interim basis following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho in December but is not expected to continue into the new season.

The report also states that Paul Pogba, the Juventus forward long linked with Manchester City, would be out of reach as Pep Guardiola plans for life in England.

Diego Costa was rested for the 1-1 draw with Stoke City as Bertrand Traore continues to impress with the Blues’ only goal on an ultimately disappointing afternoon in the capital.

Cavani has been overshadowed in Paris by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and is likely to be open to the possibility of a switch away.

Chelsea’s inability to promise Champions League football next season is likely to be a continuing headache for the club’s hierarchy as they look to re-establish themselves among the game’s elite.

Conte, who is in the process of preparing his plans to manage Italy at this summer’s European Championship, remains the favourite to succeed Mourinho but no decision has been made yet.
