Everton announce new club badge design voted for by the fans to replace 'awful' 2013-14 version

The Toffees allowed supporters to vote from three options with the winning candidate seeing the club's Latin motto ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ return to the crest

Everton have revealed the club’s new badge design after allowing supporters to vote for their favourite out of three put forward, after the previous redesign was criticised upon its unveiling.

The club said earlier this month that its Latin motto ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’, which means ‘nothing but the best’, would be reinstated to the badge after being removed following 75 years of inclusion on the Merseyside outfit’s crest.

Just under 80% of fans that took part in the vote opted for the winning design, having accumulated 10,343 votes compared to 12% for the second choice and just 9% for the third.

At the unveiling of the new crest, manager Roberto Martinez said: “I was impressed straightaway when I saw it but there has been a huge majority of fans have chosen this one.

“It captures what we were looking for: to have a modern touch and to be a global badge without taking away all the key icons of the football club.

“Certain icons represent many years of history and that is important. Fans made it clear they wanted to see the tower and our motto and I think it is important 'Nil satis' is back on the badge.”

The move to change the crest comes after over 22,000 fans signed an online petition to condemn the badge redesign at the beginning of the season. The Toffees hierarchy apologised after fnas labelled it “awful”, and promised to give them a say in the redesign.

The new badge will be used from the beginning of next season after fans voted for the winning option on the club’s official website.

In a statement released on the club's official website www.evertonfc.co.uk, director of communications Alan Myers said: "I’d like to thank all supporters who took part in an extensive crest redesign process.
"Everton listened to its fans and the fans have spoken. I look forward to seeing the crest on the shirt, the stadium, merchandise and the website."
