Each season, clubs unveil their latest kit to try and tempt the die-hard fans into purchasing a club shirt with the latest big-name transfer on the back, despite buying pretty much the same strip this time last year.

Yet one genius – or over-zealous – Everton fan has found a way to include 10 of the current squad on the back of his shirt, using a crossword puzzle layout to ensure that even if a few of the Toffees’ biggest names move on next season, he’ll still have a number of the remaining squad inscribed on his back.

He even managed to include new club-record signing Romelu Lukaku in the crossword, with the Belgian striker making his loan-move from Chelsea permanent in a £28m transfer. The switch capped a successful week for the Merseyside club, who tied down star midfielder Ross Barkley to a new four-year contract extension to keep him out of the clutches of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

Roberto Martinez also landed young centre-back Brendan Galloway on a five-year deal from MK Dons, with the teenager moving for a reported £4m with a view to becoming a key first team figure in Everton’s future defence alongside the emerging John Stones.

But despite the likes of Lukaku, Barkley and England international Leighton Baines all appearing on the shirt, the standout name is the one you may not have heard of – Pjags. Those of you scrolling though the Everton squad looking for brand new signing by the name of Pjags will be disappointed, given that it’s the nickname for club captain Phil Jagielka.

Everton face Celta Vigo at Goodison Park on Wednesday before travelling to Germany to face FC Paderborn 07 in their final pre-season friendly, and begin their Premier League campaign on 16 August against newly promoted Leicester City.
