Roberto Martinez’s three-year spell as Everton manager is all but over.

The Independent understands that the 42-year-old Spaniard has been dismissed by the club’s hierarchy before the final game of the season, with an announcement expected later on Thursday.

Martinez, who arrived at the club from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2013, enjoyed a successful debut season, guiding the Toffees’ to a fifth-place Premier League finish.

His Everton side, however, have disappointed over the course of the subsequent two seasons, as the Spaniard has failed to marry a flamboyant and attacking style of play with defensive solidity.

This season, he suffered the indignity of posting the worst home record in the Toffees' 138-year history and leaves with Everton mired in mid-table.
