It’s a big game for…

Divock Origi. The Liverpool youngster faces Everton for the first time since Ramiro Funes Mori’s ‘scandalous’ tackle put him out of the game for more than a month. Origi suggested that Funes Mori had failed to apologise personally to him, instead issuing “an official message”, and the Belgian has warned that Monday night’s clash “will be war”. Expect fireworks at the very least.

Remember when…

Daniel Sturridge’s late equaliser salvaged Liverpool a point in November 2013? The two sides met at Goodison Park in one of the most memorable Merseyside clashes in recent years. With Everton seemingly set for a 3-2 victory, Sturridge’s late goal in the 89th minute ensured the spoils were shared.

Player to watch…

Simon Mignolet. The Belgian impressed on his return against Middlesbrough and is expected to start once again tonight. With question marks continuing to hang over himself and fellow ‘keeper Loris Karius, Mignolet will need to keep his cool in arguably his side’s biggest game of the season so far. The pressure is on and it’ll be very interesting indeed to see how he handles it.

Good evening and welcome to The Independent's live coverage of tonight's Merseyside derby from Goodison Park.

After the weekend's Premier League results, Liverpool find themselves nine points behind leaders Chelsea but a win this evening will propel the Reds back into second position. History is certainly on their side given that they are unbeaten in the last 11 league meetings with their city rivals, and have lost just one of the previous 19.

Everton, however, have reasons to be hopeful themselves. The Toffees ended a disappointing run of form in midweek with a battling 2-1 home victory over another title contender in Arsenal. A similar display from Ronald Koeman's team tonight and we could have quite a game in store. It's live from eight o'clock.

Everton's recent record in Merseyside derbies is well documented, but when the Sky cameras come to town on Monday nights it is an altogether different story.

At least that will explain why Evertonians are so dismissive of the Boomtown Rats.

The team news from Goodison Park has arrived...

...and there are no surprises in the sides named. Everton boss Ronald Koeman is forced into making one change to the eleven that beat Arsenal here in midweek. Captain Phil Jagielka was sent off in injury time against the Gunners and is suspended this evening which means Ramiro Funes Mori - dismissed in his last Merseyside derby - comes into central defence. Enner Valencia makes his second start for the Toffees alongside Romelu Lukaku in attack while Gareth Barry remains on the bench.

After dismissing Middlesbrough 3-0 on Wednesday, Liverpool are unchanged for the trip to their near neighbours. It means Simon Mignolet continues in goal after returning to the side with a clean sheet. Joel Matip has not recovered from his recent knock so Ragnar Klavan remains at centre-back; Daniel Sturridge is back on the bench but unable to usurp the in-form Divock Origi in attack.
