Fulham have offered Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink a £4.5m contract to move from Chelsea, but may face competition from Middlesbrough.

Fulham stunned Hasselbaink with the size of the offer they are willing to pay because he is a "one-off", a free transfer with proven Premiership ability. The striker is in line for a deal worth around £35,000 a week, with bonuses based on appearances and goals.

Fulham were confident of winning the race yesterday but then Hasselbaink's camp spoke to Boro. However, the geography of the move favours Fulham.

Sean Davis will have talks with Tottenham today after a £3m deal was agreed with Fulham last night. The midfielder's exit was cleared after the Fulham manager, Chris Coleman, accepted that the home-grown player wanted to go - and when the Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, finally came up with the right offer. Spurs had baulked at Fulham's valuation, offering a smaller sum including instalments, but a compromise was reached after lengthy talks.

Marcel Desailly claims he has been offered the chance to end his playing days and return to Chelsea to take up a role on Jose Mourinho's staff. The 35-year-old former France captain, who cut his playing links with Chelsea by mutual consent on Tuesday, would be taking on his first coaching role.
