Fulham v Tottenham: Struggling striker Roberto Soldado admits he needs to score more than he has done but promises to come good

The Spaniard spoke of his disappointment at not finding the back of the net more often but remains convinced the goals will start flowing soon enough

Roberto Soldado admits his goal return for Tottenham is much less than he would have hoped for following his big-money move from Valencia - but he is confident of better times to come.

Tottenham splashed out a then club-record fee of around £26million to bring Soldado to England this summer but the Spain international has struggled to justify that outlay so far.

He has struck six goals in all competitions, but half of those have come from the penalty spot, and the 28-year-old concedes he expected to do better.

Asked if he had found the back of the net as often as he would have liked, Soldado said in the Daily Telegraph: "No. Definitely not. Much less. A lot of my goals have come from the penalty spot."

Soldado, who was a prolific scorer in Spain for Valencia and Getafe prior to his switch to the Barclays Premier League, believes Spurs fans will see more from him in the future, though.

"I want to score more goals than I am doing at the moment. That is why they signed me. I have been doing it all my career," he said.

"I haven't done so far here, but I am convinced I will get there."

Tottenham travel to Fulham on Wednesday night as they look for a first Barclays Premier League win in five matches. Sunday's 2-2 home draw with Manchester United left Andre Villas-Boas's side in ninth place in the table.
